राष्ट्रीय सूचना-विज्ञान केन्द्र,भारत सरकार का प्रमुख आईसीटी संगठन

राष्ट्रीय सूचना-विज्ञान केन्द्र (एनआईसी)भारत सरकार का एक प्रमुख वैज्ञानिक व तकनीकी संस्थान है जिसकी 1976 में सरकारी क्षेत्र में बेहतर पद्धतियों, एकीकृत सेवाओं तथा विश्वव्यापी समाधानों को अपनाने वाली ई-सरकार/ई-शासन संबंधी समाधानों को प्रदान करने के लिए स्थापना की गयी ।

वर्ष 1975में,भारत सरकार ने सामाजिक विकास तथा आर्थिक संवर्धन को बढ़ावा देने के लिए कार्यक्रम कार्यान्वयन तथा नियोजना की सुविधा मुहैया कराने हेतु सरकारी मंत्रालयों तथा विभागों में कम्प्यूटर आधारित निर्णय लेने में सहायक प्रणाली (सूचना-विज्ञान विकास) को शुरु करने के लिए तथा सूचना संसाधनों की उपयोगिता तथा सूचना प्रणालियों के विकास हेतु प्रभावी कदम उठाने के लिए उपयुक्त निर्णय लिये । इसके पश्चात्, केन्द्र सरकार ने 1976 में तथा उसके बाद यू.एस. $ 4.1 मिलियन की संयुक्त राष्ट्र विकास कार्यक्रम (यूएनडीपी) की वित्तीय सहायता से “राष्ट्रीय सूचना-विज्ञान केन्द्र (एनआईसी)” नामक एक उच्च प्राथमिकता योजना परियोजना तैयार की ।
