DescriptionThe Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department (FCSCAD) of the Government of Gujarat is responsible for the procurement, monitoring and distribution of essential commodities for sustenance of the citizens of the state, through the Gujarat State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd. (GSCSC), a holding company of the Gujarat Government. It is involved in the distribution of essential food commodities like wheat, rice, sugar, and other essential commodities to the economically challenged people through its wide network of over 17,000 Fair Price Shops (FPS). The kerosene is distributed under the PDS by the FPS and Retailer/Hawker procured by the approved oil company dealers. Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) is an instrument of public policy to safeguard the interests of vulnerable sections of the society from either the price shocks or supply shortages. Under this programme, the Government of India (GoI) supplies essential commodities viz. wheat/millets, rice, sugar, edible oil and kerosene, while the State Government has the option to add other items as considered essential. Software application will be useful in minimizing manual and repetitive work of the FCSCAD. The system will lead to an increase in efficiency and remove redundancy from the existing system. The objective of the whole exercise is to make the process transparent and to facilitate better control and smooth execution.
