The NIC Himachal Pradesh State Unit was established in the year 1988 and by 1989 all the twelve districts were covered including the two tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul & Spiti. All the NIC District Centres have at least one NIC officer posted at each location. The ICT services are being provided to all the three wings of the Democracy - Administration, Judiciary and Assembly. The unit has provided support to the State Government by undertaking the development and implementation of a number of innovative eGovernance projects thereby making the Government reach the citizens at their door-steps.
Keeping in line with the technological advancements, the NIC State Unit has acquired state of the art IT infrastructure over the year. The services provided to the State Government departments have increased accordingly and can be grouped as following:

A number of eGovernance Projects have been developed and implemented by the State Centre, which have won accolades at National & International level. Since the inception of the National eGovernance Awards by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances and DIT, GoI, the State Centre Projects have won 9 National eGovernance Awards.
Presently, the NIC Himachal State Centre has set up the following infrastructure in the State:
- High Speed Internet access through leased line.
- I00 MBPS desktop connectivity over GB backbone.
- Highly secure (Network is made highly secure using IPS, firewalls, ACL’s, VPN configuration)
- Network has dedicated Antivirus server, patch Management server and a System Log server.
- In addition to proxy, NAT services are also available.
- The network is fully documented as per ISO requirements.
- 45 Mbps leased line connectivity in HP Secretariat from BSNL (and 45 Mbps back-up line from PGCIL)
- 2 Mbps leased line connectivity established in all NIC District Centres of Himachal Pradesh.
- 2 Mbps leased line connectivity to the 14 DOP locations in Himachal Pradesh.

Video conferencing facility is presently available in all the districts of Himachal Pradesh and the facility is established at CM secretariat and CS office as well. The facility is being extended to the remote tribal sub-divisions of Pangi, Bharmour, Pooh and Kaza, Internet is also provided through DAMA VSAT in these tribal locations
NIC HP State Center has established a data center with 7 TB storage capacity. The databases and web applications are hosted on the SAN to provide high availability, quick scalability, efficient management & optimized utilization of resources. Presently, 6 servers are connected to SAN. Remote updation facility provided to users for sites hosted on SAN.

Websites: The official website of the Himachal Pradesh Government (http://himachal.nic.in) has been developed by NIC as a web-portal covering all aspects related to the Government of HP. Special emphasis has been laid on the E-Governance and G2C services aspect. This web portal has lot of static and dynamic information and links to government departments, corporations, boards, universities, agencies, autonomous and statutory bodies and districts of Himachal Pradesh. Apart from it, 80 websites of H.P. Government organisations etc. are managed in terms of improvement in design, up-gradation in functionality, hosting of contents as regular activity.
Examination Results Publishing: Examination results of 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th classes of regular, supplementary for about 4.5 lakh students of HP Education Board are published on Examination Results web portal every year. Apart from these results Entrance examination results and academic examination of HP University for various streams are published on results web portal throughout the year. HP Education Board Examination results are also available through IVRS and Touch Screen Kiosks.
Web-cast: Live web-cast and on demand web-cast for important events are done as and when required. Web cast of events is done through streaming media centre set up locally at NIC-HP State Centre in coordination with NIC-Hq media centre.
Websites Security Audit: Website security audit of static websites is done locally. Dynamic website security audit is presently done at NIC Hqrs. and coordinated from NIC-HP State Centre. As per the report of the audit, the respective cyber security measures are taken by concerned team at NIC-HP State Centre and process is on till the website gets the audit clearance. Website security audit of a new website request for hosting is done as per contents of a website before it is hosted on NIC web server. For earlier hosted websites, the website security audit process is on for various websites.
The NIC has established a Media Centre with facility to live web-casting on the World Wide Web, important events like Independence Day celebrations, State Budget presentation in Assembly, Republic Day Parade etc. The necessary HW & System SW has been installed for live web-cast of streaming audio-video.
Domain name: Domain name registration of .NIC.IN and .GOV.IN are coordinated between NIC-Hqrs. and requesting Government organisation in Himachal Pradesh.
Website Remote Publishing: Remote publishing of websites is coordinated and managed for various websites owners from their office location and hosted at NIC internet data centre at New Delhi. Remote publishing of websites is done through secured virtual private network.
